Some Things Don't Make Sense Anymore. But Self-Love and Self-Care Do.
Notice this. Have you ever been so busy taking care of someone else that you forgot you were somebody to somebody who needed love and needed to be taken care of? And a lot of people don't think that makes any sense. And that's exactly what I'm going to talk about today. Things that don't make sense. But before we get into all the nonsense, remember one thing throughout this conversation, because you know I love talking: you make sense, and taking care of you makes sense, even when other things in the world don't.

How are you? No, seriously, how are you? How's your day going? Have you been noticing what's happening in the world lately? Apparently, there have been elections, new energies coming in, and people are feeling confident. Things are still fluctuating, and everybody seems to have an opinion about where everything is heading. But you know what shouldn't fluctuate? How you take care of yourself. That's one thing I think we need to stop putting on the back burner. Check in with yourself. Ask yourself, "How am I?" Not how's the economy, not how's the neighbour, not how's everybody else doing. How are YOU?
And don't forget to tap that notification button, because I love having these conversations. I love sharing my blogs with y'all. So let's continue talking about what makes sense and what doesn't.
If you've been following my story, you know I've been taking you through the grades of my life, sharing what I've learned about growing up, investing in myself, money, and all those experiences that helped make me who I am. Right now, I'm at Grade 11. But we're not going to talk about Grade 11 today. I'm taking a break. Consider this recess during life. You know, when you just sit down, take a moment, and talk about something completely different. Because have you noticed that things don't make sense anymore?
I mean, it's frustrating. As new technology comes in, new people come in, and the world keeps changing, you realize something as you get older. Especially when you're learning to eat better, take care of yourself daily, and pay attention to your own well-being. You start noticing things. And some of those things just don't make any sense. They boggle your mind.
And you know what I do when something starts boggling my mind? I go, "No." And I continue down a different path. Because I can't let my mind be filled with nonsense all day long. Now, that doesn't mean I won't go out and try something first. I might give it a chance, look at it, think about it, and then go, "Yeah, that doesn't make any sense." At least I gave it a look.
Which brings me to something that happened the other day.
My husband and I were doing laundry. And when we go for laundry, we make a day out of it. Why not? The clothes are getting cleaned, so we might as well enjoy ourselves while we're at it. We sat down, grabbed a drink at a place called Landlubbers, and just chilled. You know, one of those moments where you're sitting there going, "Yeah, y'all. How you doing?" Nothing fancy. Just living.
Earlier, we'd had a conversation with a girl, and it got me thinking about how many things we accept as normal even when they don't make much sense to me.
We're thinking about getting a dog. So I asked her, "Do you know anybody who's giving away a dog?" And she said, "Oh, I wish. People don't really do that." And I thought, yeah, but cats? People seem to give away cats all the time. Here, here, here. Have a cat.
And then I started thinking. What is this distinction we've made between cats and dogs?
You can see a cat roaming around the neighbourhood, unattended, free as the day it was born. Born free! And people look at it and say, "Oh, look at that kitty cat." Isn't that nice? But let a dog go walking down the same street by itself, and suddenly everybody's concerned. What's wrong? Is it lost? Does it need help? Who do we call? How do we save it?
Now, I understand there are differences in how we care for cats and dogs, and there are safety concerns and local rules. But I'm talking about the way our minds respond to the sight of one versus the other. That distinction fascinates me.
And the girl and I continued talking. I said, dogs can protect your home, protect your house. Cats don't necessarily do that. Yet cats are often allowed to roam around, and dogs aren't. We have neighbourhood cats. Have you ever heard somebody casually talking about the neighbourhood dog in the same way? Not really. Because a dog roaming around usually becomes everybody's business.
Why do we think one thing is perfectly normal and the other is an emergency?
Some things don't make sense. But you know what does make sense? Self-care.
And here's another one that boggles my mind. The distinction between a bikini and underwear.
Think about it. You go to the beach and see people wearing bikinis, Speedos, bathing suits, whatever. Everybody's walking around, swimming, enjoying themselves. It's perfectly normal. But somebody goes home, puts on underwear or a bra, and suddenly the same amount of coverage has a completely different meaning.
Now, yes, I know the fabric can be different. Bathing suits are made for swimming. Underwear isn't necessarily made for jumping into the ocean. I'm not suggesting you throw your underwear on and go diving off the nearest dock. Although, come on, people have probably done stranger things.
What fascinates me is how we've trained our minds to separate things based on where we are and what we've decided to call them. At the beach, it's a bathing suit. At home, it's underwear. The setting changes how we think about what we're looking at.
It's funny how our minds can make something seem completely sensible just because we've been taught to see it that way.

Some things don't make sense. But guess what? Self-love and self-care do.
And another thing I find fascinating is donating blood.
You're actually giving something that could help save another person's life. Think about that for a moment. Somebody you may never meet could benefit from something your body produces. You're giving another person an opportunity to receive care when they need it. That's incredible.
But here's the part that gets me thinking. When someone takes a life, the consequences can be enormous. Lives are destroyed. Families are changed forever. But when somebody gives blood to help save a life, what do they get? A cookie? Maybe a hoodie?
Now, I know that's not why people donate blood. And I know donating blood doesn't automatically mean you've personally saved one particular life. But the act of giving something that can help somebody else survive deserves recognition.
I mean, come on. You're giving something life-sustaining, and somebody hands you a cookie. Thank you very much. Would you like chocolate chip?
I'm not saying we should turn blood donation into a shopping spree. I'm saying it's fascinating what society chooses to reward, what we recognize, and how we measure the value of helping another human being. I think there should be more appreciation for people who take the time to give something of themselves.
Because blood is life-sustaining. And the willingness to help another person matters.
Some things don't make sense. But self-love and self-care do.
And speaking of things that make you wonder, do you remember Hollywood glamour?
The 1920s, the 1940s, the 1950s. Beautiful glamorous stars, elegant clothes, red carpets, cameras flashing. Hollywood was this big dream. Everybody wanted to be a star. Use your talent, become famous, create wealth, and live this incredible life. At least that's the picture many of us grew up seeing.
Fast-forward to 2026, and you hear actors talking about contracts, residual payments, struggling financially, and working second jobs. Some performers have spoken about how difficult it can be to make a stable living in an industry that looks so wealthy from the outside.
And I sit here thinking, what happened to the fantasy?
Now, I'm not saying every actor is poor or that every contract is unfair. I'm saying the image of Hollywood wealth doesn't always match the reality people experience behind the scenes.
All that glamour. All those flashing cameras. All that fame. And some people are still trying to figure out how to pay their bills.
So what is Hollywood? Is it a mirage in the desert of wealth?
You think you're looking at something beautiful and prosperous in the distance, but when you get closer, the picture isn't always what you thought it was.
And isn't that a lesson for everyday life? How often do we look at somebody else's success and assume everything must be wonderful because the outside looks wonderful? Meanwhile, we don't know what they're dealing with behind the curtain.
Some things don't make sense. But self-love and self-care do.
And let's talk about one more thing. AI technology.
Boy, do I have thoughts about this one.
I sit here and use AI for all kinds of things. I organize my schedule. I look at information to help me plan the best days for what I need to accomplish. I use tools to help me get things done. And then I start thinking, is this technology faster than me? Is it better than me?
No. It just kind of seems like it sometimes.
Now, obviously, technology can process certain kinds of information faster than I can. I'm not going to sit here pretending I'm going to calculate a mountain of data quicker than a computer. Come on. I have laundry to do.
But here's something I refuse to forget. Regardless of what tools I use to create, organize, or share my creativity with the world, I will never underestimate my own talent and my ability to create.
That's important.
Because somewhere along the way, we've started acting as though the tool is more valuable than the human being using it. We get so impressed by what technology can produce that we sometimes forget who had the thought, who lived the experience, who asked the question, and who brought the idea into the world in the first place.
I use AI. And I still have my own mind. I still have my own experiences, my own humour, my own creativity, and my own voice.
A tool doesn't erase the person holding it.
And that makes sense.

So if you're travelling through this world, and we all are, remember that some things may never make sense to you. And I suggest you don't stick your head in that business for too long, because constantly trying to figure out every contradiction can wear on your mental health.
Trying to make sense of an upside-down, inside-out world is exhausting.
We were born into this world, and we spend our lives trying to understand how it works. And every time we think we've figured something out, guess what? They change the game.
New technology. New expectations. New rules. New ways of doing things. Something that was perfectly normal yesterday suddenly becomes outdated tomorrow. And we're all supposed to keep up with it.
Well, excuse me. Some of us are still trying to finish the laundry.
So don't worry your head over everything. Continue doing what makes sense to you.
For me, that means taking care of myself. Making sure I'm eating properly, checking in with my mindset, protecting my peace, and giving myself what I need so I can think clearly through the mess that life sometimes throws my way.
And here's a question I keep coming back to. If the world wants us to be successful, why do so many things around us seem to demand more of our health, our time, our mindset, and our well-being?
We're encouraged to work harder, do more, stay connected, stay informed, keep up, and never fall behind. And then we're told to relax. Take care of ourselves. Find balance.
Well, which one is it?

How are we supposed to find balance when we're constantly being pulled in different directions?
Maybe that's why self-care matters so much. Not because it magically fixes everything going on around us, but because it gives us somewhere to return to when everything else feels confusing.
You don't have to understand every decision somebody makes. You don't have to participate in every argument. You don't have to follow every trend. You don't have to prove that you're keeping up with a world that seems to change its mind every five minutes.
You can step away.
You can take a break.
You can have a little recess from life.
And you can remember that taking care of yourself isn't nonsense. It's one of the most sensible things you can do.
Well, welcome to my recess.
Anyways, follow along for more conversations about what I've learned in my life, how I've disconnected—excuse me, disconnected. See? Even my mouth is trying to tell me something. How I've disconnected from what was to who I am, so I can see things more clearly.
Because the farther you get away from the picture of toxicity and the things that don't make sense, the more you realize that you do make sense.
And maybe that's the whole point of today's conversation.
Not everything needs to make sense. But you deserve to take care of yourself while you're figuring life out.
So take care of you. Thanks for listening, and welcome to Canada's Selflove Daily Channel. Follow along, because there's plenty more to talk about.
And you know what?

Self-love and self-care will get you there. Canadian or not.
